Frenectomy
Frenectomy procedures are considered a surgical procedure
even though they are very easy to do and have minimal post operative effects.
When using the laser, post operative discomfort is usually
minimal, but you may wish to use a pain reliever such as Motrin,
Advil, or Tylenol (children’s
doses for children are important).
A few pieces of gauze have been
sent home with you to use. Keep a slight amount of pressure on
the site with a dampened piece of gauze for the first 30 minutes.
You may need to change this gauze 3-4 times. This should be enough time
for the bleeding to ease.
Avoid spicy, crusty, crunchy, and sour foods for
the first week.
Rinsing the area with warm salt water rinses may
be beneficial and soothing.
Initial healing occurs in 5-7 days,
but the tissues below the surface may take an additional 3-6 months
to heal. Longer healing times occur in cases where tooth movement
is happening in conjunction with the healing process. As with all medical
and dental procedures no guarantees have been expressed or implied.
Limit
activities that can result in the area being traumatized or hit
for the first week.
Normal every day activities can be resumed the
next day after treatment is completed.
If any unusual bleeding or
pain occurs please call our office, so we may check the area.
